Bremelanotide (often called PT-141) is a synthetic peptide that acts on the melanocortin system, a group of receptors involved in sexual function, appetite, and skin pigmentation. It was originally derived from research on tanning peptides related to Melanotan II, but scientists discovered it had strong effects on sexual arousal pathways in the brain rather than pigmentation.
